Our impact

Beyond just acquiring new haircare skills, these sessions have a profound impact on the lives of blind and low vision women and girls who attend by developing social  networks resulting in less isolation, increasing confidence and elevating their self-esteem.

This work directly contributes to these 'lifelong' impacts and assists disadvantaged women  and girls to live lives they want to live and overcome the barriers they face.

We not only show participants the basics in how to style, and care for their hair, the workshops also provide the opportunity to meet new people, develop new friendships and reduce the isolation suffered by so many of this group.

We ensure this continues to grow through a number of online events involving participants and actively encourage them to invite others as well as family and friends, this gives them a wider sense of community and helps to improve the confidence of their families etc in their abilities.

The blind and low vision community  within the beauty industry

By bridging the gap between the beauty industry and blind and low vision people, Hair & Care paves the way for a more inclusive and accessible beauty landscape, ensuring that everyone can participate and enjoy the benefits of self-care and personal expression.

Why Hair & Care is pioneering

In today's society, it is crucial for the beauty industry to embrace accessibility and inclusivity to ensure that everyone has equal opportunities to engage and benefit from its offerings. However, blind and low vision individuals often face significant challenges when it comes to accessing and participating in beauty-related activities.

This is where our organisation plays a vital role. Hair & Care recognises that hair care is not just about aesthetics but also a means of self- expression and self-care.

How volunteering for Hair & Care can be beneficial to you.

Volunteering is always beneficial, as it allows you to be a part of making a positive impact on others, and the community. Offering your time, skills and resources to those in need is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling, allowing you to connect with others and use your time positively.

EMPATHY, MINDFUL DIALOGUE, ACCESSIBILITY

Learning these skills is important for ensuring your work as a hairstylist is as accessible as possible. Hairstylists who volunteer with us gain stronger skills in mindful dialogue, empathy and accessibility.
